Seacoast Interfaith Hospitality Network

Welcome

SEACOAST INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK (SIHN) is a network of volunteers from various faith communities demonstrating their strength of compassion and generosity, putting faith into action. Through donations of time and funds, Seacoast IHN provides a safe place for families to turn for immediate food, shelter, and social services. Participating congregations reach out to families in crisis offering guidance and encouragement while preserving the dignity of families as they take important steps to regain independence. More than eighty percent of Network guests secure permanent housing.

Tom Holbrook, owner and manager of RiverRun Bookstore in downtown Portsmouth, recently presented Pati Frew-Waters, Network Director of Seacoast Interfaith Hospitality Network, and board president Fran Berman with a donation of $3,000 as part of RiverRun's innovative giving program, Business Building Community.

United Way of the Greater Seacoast has partnered with RiverRun to work with the non-profit recipients and help spread the word.

Throughout 2008, for two months at a time, RiverRun is featuring information about a different local non-profit agency addressing the issue of housing and those affected by the lack of affordable housing in the region.  At the conclusion of each two-month period, the featured non-profit receives 2% of RiverRun's gross earnings.  Customers have the opportunity to learn about the featured non-profits in a brochure updated every two months, through selected books on the issue, and through events held at the store.

Seacoast Interfaith Hospitality Network (SIHN)  a program for families experiencing homelessness, was the beneficiary of the Business Building Community program for the months of May and June.  The $3,000 contribution from RiverRun will assist SIHN in providing a safe place for families to turn for immediate food, shelter, and social services.  RiverRun will also be a lead sponsor of SIHN’s annual benefit auction, to be held Nov. 6 at the Masonic Temple in Portsmouth.

More than 450 volunteers from 17 participating faith congregations volunteer with SIHN, offering meals, lodging, guidance and encouragement while preserving the dignity of guest families as they take important steps to regain independence.   After completing the SIHN program, more than 90% of SIHN's guests go on to secure permanent housing.
